Description The Micro-O-Ring system produces accurate, repeatable hardness readings on soft elastomers too thin or too irregular in shape, such as small o-rings, for measurement with a standard durometer. Used on specimens with cross sections as thin as 1.25 mm (0.05 in). The special indenter and hydraulically controlled descent attain minimal indenter penetration and material deformation. Shore Micro-O-Ring test systems conform to ASTM D2240-00 for Type M (micro hardness durometer). Principle of Operation Shore Micro-O-Ring test systems are type M durometers that are designed to test elastomer specimens with a cross sectional thickness up to 7 mm (0.275 in). The hardness values given by this instrument differ from those produced by a type A durometer. Due to the light load applied to the indenter, testing with this instrument will not indicate the cold flow or creep characteristics of the material you test. Only minimal application pressure is required to attain full scale readings. This allows the user the ability of testing production pieces rather than test slabs, which rarely reflect the actual hardness values of the finished product.
